Leo “Bud” Welch & Dixie Street Sabougla, Mississippi
All weekend in the Lounge area
Friday & Saturday: 10.30pm-11.30pm Sunday: 10pm-11pm
Leo “Bud” Welch is exciting to watch playing both Gospel and Blues.
He released his first record entering his 80's, although Leo “Bud” Welch has always considered himself a bluesman. The 82-year-old Mississippi singer and guitarist took a long break from the blues—for decades, in fact—while he played gospel music instead. “Blues is what I was born into,” says Welch, who returns to his roots on his upcoming second album, “I Don’t Prefer No Blues,” which includes the song “Girl in the Holler.”
Check him out in the lounge area of the marquee all three nights.
The Selwyn Birchwood Band Florida
Friday 4th September
In 2013, Birchwood catapulted from local hero to shooting star. He won the world-renowned International Blues Challenge, beating out 125 other bands from the U.S. and abroad. He also took home the Albert King Guitarist Of The Year Award. It wasn’t long before Alligator Records president Bruce Iglauer offered Birchwood a contract. His debut album, Don’t Call No Ambulance, is a fully realized vision of contemporary blues. Birchwood’s original songs range from raucous romps to hill country stomps, from searing, serious slow blues to modern blues rock. Between his uninhibited sense of fun and adventure and his serious-as-a-heart-attack musicianship, "Don’t Call No Ambulance" is a window into the future of the blues. “All originals and no filler,” he says of the album. “It’s that genuineness of emotion in the songs that people can hear.”
"Selwyn Birchwood is an indelibly modern and original next-generation bluesman; his tough vocals, guitar and lap steel touch on classic Chicago blues, Southern soul and boogie." --Washington Post
"A powerhouse player and emotive performer…his band, his material and both his skilled guitaring and soulful vocals are the essence of fully-formed. Birchwood is a major player. Highly recommended."
The Nikki Hill Band North Carolina
Friday 4th September
Hill and her band have been touring the United States, Europe and Australia extensively following the independent release of debut album 'Here's Nikki Hill' in April 2013 leaving jaws on the floor along the way.
Nikki’s unique voice with raw rock and soul dynamics mixed with the strength, passion, and honesty of blues shouters of the past, steers the driving guitar from Matt Hill, and a tight rhythm section provided by Ed Strohsahl (bass) and Joe Meyer (drums, percussion), to create a breath of fresh air with their authentic approach to American roots music..
Those who have seen Carolina girl Nikki Hill sing her ass off agree—this isn’t just another newcomer on the scene, this is a… ‘whiplash’ moment. Her memorable live performances, has drawn a wide range of people from every avenue and musical tastes to their shows. One club advertisement will call Nikki “The Southern Fireball”, “the New Soul Sensation”, “amazing R&B Shouter”, and even “the new Queen of Rock n’ Roll”.

The Dana Fuchs Band New York
Sunday 6th September
All Dana Fuchs has to do is sing. All it takes is one note from those celebrated lips and clocks stop, crowds snap to attention, hearts beat like bass drums and neck-hair tingles. It’s often been said that the Florida-born front-woman could sing the phone directory and still hold her listeners spellbound. True enough, but in 2013, when Dana applies that extraordinary voice to the classic songs from her third album Bliss Avenue, you’ll realize that you’re in the presence of once-a-generation greatness.
"… Dana Fuchs offers a virtuoso demonstration of primal blues-rock vocalizing in service to feelings of betrayal, lust and longing … Fuchs often unloads vocally with Plant-ian authority. Yet the nuanced southern soul groove of her slinky, horn-inflected “Summersong” kissoff and her acoustic-based, shimmering soul ballad “keepsake” show a singer-songwriter who can bring home bittersweet reflective musings as credibly as she can rage at the heavens. Sonically, she and co-producer/guitarist Jon Diamond let it roar, hot and unyielding across the channels…. Love To Beg is awe inspiring …"
– The Absolute Sound Magazine USA
“To look at, Fuchs is willowy flower-fairey with a head of Titian curls, like a wayward Joss Stone. Her voice, though is juke-joint dirty and illicit, evoking Joplin, Jagger, and a fag butt bobbing in a glass of bourbon … She’s backed by a superior wingman and co-writer in Jon Diamond, a session veteran and soulful slide guitarist who turns co-writes like “Nothing’s What I Cry For” and “Golden Eyes” into Scorching, muscular grooves. Naturally, the blues police will say she isn’t sufficiently grizzled, road-worn or male enough for serious consideration. Fuchs the lot of ‘em.”
